Chapter 3 – How to use a genuine voice?

  1. Be and know yourself. You need to think carefully and logically about your life and don’t swing by others and popular opinions. You should spend more time examining your ideas rather than acting on impulse.

Note: I don’t like to use quotes. This is one of the few that I like.

Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom.

— Lao Tzu
  1. Middle spot in communication is the spot between being brutally honest and holding back.

For example:
a) Hi Ms. HoHo let me tell how you can save up money ordering my services.
b) Hi Ms. HoHo, in order to help new bloggers save money, I offer free articles about “How to start a blog.”

Which approach is better for you? B, right?

Start with, not always, something like, you don’t have to believe this, but this is what I believe, for this reason [ __ ] Rather than, there you go or here is the answer.

  1. Write like you talk. Imagine that your readers are in front of you and you are
    talking to them.

For example:
a) Hi, my name is Marija. Among the other services I offer for creating a website is a special discount for extra help between different or the same Units. At least 25% off.
b) Ask questions, listen, tell stories and relate to people.

  1. Use active voice. To keep your reader engaged, use active voice, when possible,
to give it straightforwardness and passion.

For example:
Passive: a blog is going to be started by me today.
Active: I am going to start a blog today.

  1. Storytelling is important. When you write your blog post like a story it will “stick” – attach emotion to your readers memory. You can use facts and figures to make a whole story, but don’t use them alone because they are harder to remember.
Stories can reach readers with genuine messages bringing the passion at the heart of your blog (business).

Your genuine voice needs to sound like a human is speaking.

Maybe you want to sound professional or to bring credibility or to be friendly. When you are writing, your tone needs to be consistent. One blog post, one voice. Pick a voice that suits your goal and be consistent through the whole blog post.

Ask yourself questions and answer them in your blog post. Don’t write questions, just answers. Just write, not worrying about grammar, you can check that later. Write more often to practice your writing voices.
