Chapter 3 – How to use a genuine voice?

Web writing can be compared to direct talking. When someone talks to you, you stop thinking, you pay attention and you listen. If you write to a reader and it has a voice (sound) of a real person, then that is a genuine voice. When you use a genuine voice to write to a reader then it is like a conversation. Where there is a conversation then people will listen.

When you write in a genuine voice you should use simple words, strong verbs and nouns and short sentences when possible. Genuine voice can help you to get to the point of your blog post. Using “you” when you write to the reader is conversational, beside that, it is used when you write in first person.

Five key points to help you to write in genuine voice: 1) Be yourself and know yourself; 2) What is the middle spot in communication?; 3) Why you should write like you talk?; 4) Why it’s better to use active voice rather than passive?; 5) Why storytelling is important?
